Shernold was founded in 1935 and although it has expanded over the years, has kept sight of its original aims to create a happy, positive environment in which children flourish.
The school has 8 classes (2 within the Kindergarten Unit) and children are grouped according to the class placement policy. The school's planned admission limit is 20. The number of children on the roll is 160. With small class sizes and highly qualified, experienced, and committed staff, we can provide the best education for our pupils. We particularly extend those gifted and talented children. We believe that each child must be given the opportunity to succeed, in whatever field, and we encourage self-respect, self-awareness and a feeling of community spirit within the school.
Shernold has an excellent range of facilities, including an art room, music room, computer room and a well-stocked library. The main building is a substantial mid-Victorian house, full of character yet well equipped, and with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Physical Education and games are well catered for, with a netball/tennis court, seven aside football, gym equipment and ample playing space for hockey, cricket, football and rounders. With a thriving young orchestra and choir, music and drama contributes much to the life of Shernold School. We offer lessons from highly qualified teachers in all areas, concentrating on piano, strings and woodwind. After school clubs include Drama, Science, Orchestra, Modern Dance, Ballet, Tap, Recorder and Football/Sports.
The school runs a supervised prep class from 3.15pm until 5.30pm.
